Okay, so I’ve been wanting to grow a Himalayan Champaca tree (Magnolia champaca, used to be Michelia champaca) for a while now. The fragrance is supposed to be amazing, and I’ve always loved a good gardening challenge. Here’s how it went, bumps and all:
Getting Started
First, I tried to find a small tree locally. No luck. All the nurseries around here just had the usual stuff. So, I went online and ordered some seeds. I figured, “Hey, I can do this from scratch!”

The Seed Struggle
When the seeds arrived, they looked kinda dry. I remembered reading somewhere that you should soak them, so I put them in a bowl of warm water for about 24 hours. Some floated, some sank – I wasn’t sure what that meant, but I planted them all anyway.
