Well, now, Mother’s Day, huh? It’s a day they tell ya to be good to yer Ma. Like ya shouldn’t be good to her every other day, mind ya. But I guess it’s nice to have a special day, even if it’s just somethin’ them city folks made up. Still, thinkin’ ‘bout yer Ma, that’s important, ya know.
Them preachers, they always talkin’ ‘bout honorin’ yer Ma and Pa. Says it right there in the Good Book, somethin’ ‘bout honorin’ yer father and mother. First commandment with a promise, they say. Don’t go cursin’ ’em neither, or somethin’ bad might happen. Kids these days, they don’t listen much. Always on them phones, tappin’ away. They need to be listenin’ to their elders. Back in my day, we listened, or we got a switch to our backside.
Now, this here book, the Bible, it says a bunch of things ‘bout good women. There’s this one part, somethin’ in Proverbs, talks about a strong woman. Says she’s got strength and dignity, and she can laugh at the days to come. That’s how a Ma should be, strong and able to handle whatever life throws at her. Makin’ sure the young’uns are fed, the house is clean, and Pa ain’t gettin’ into too much trouble. It ain’t easy, lemme tell ya.
- Bein’ respectful: Don’t go arguin’ with her all the time. She birthed ya, ya know. And don’t be callin’ her names, even if she forgets where she put her teeth again.
- Don’t be a brat: Nobody likes a spoiled brat, especially not a Ma who’s worked her fingers to the bone for ya.
- No schemin’: Don’t go plottin’ against yer Ma, tryin’ to get somethin’ she don’t wanna give.
- Keep yer hands to yerself: Stealin’ from yer Ma? That’s just low.
- Tell the truth: Don’t go lyin’ about her, or to her. Honesty’s important.
Mothers, they’re a gift, like the preacher says. A gift from God. They carried ya for nine months, fed ya, clothed ya, and put up with all yer nonsense. They deserve a whole lotta love and appreciation. Not just on Mother’s Day, but every day. But Mother’s Day is when we really need to think about them.
So, what can ya do to honor yer Ma? Well, it don’t gotta be fancy. Maybe make her breakfast, let her sleep in. Give her a hug, tell her ya love her. A little kindness goes a long way. And if she’s gone, well, ya can still honor her memory. Think about the good times, the things she taught ya. Maybe plant some flowers in her favorite color.
You know, it’s the little things that count. A phone call if ya don’t live close. A card with some nice words in it. Even just sittin’ down and havin’ a chat. They ain’t gonna be around forever. And them young’uns, they grow up fast, too fast. Before ya know it, they’re gone, got lives of their own. So cherish them moments, when ya can.
Mother’s Day ain’t just about flowers and candy, ya know. It’s about showin’ respect, showin’ love, showin’ appreciation for the woman who brought ya into this world. And that’s the truth, the good Lord’s truth. It’s about rememberin’ all the sacrifices she made for ya, all the times she put yer needs before her own. It’s important, this rememberin’.
So, go on, call yer Ma. Tell her ya love her. And don’t just do it on Mother’s Day. Do it every chance ya get. ‘Cause one day, ya won’t be able to, and then yer heart will be heavier than a sack of wet feed.
