So, I decided to get my hands dirty with the Australian Willow Tree, also known as Geijera parviflora. I’d heard it’s a pretty cool, drought-tolerant tree, and I wanted something that would look nice in my yard without needing constant attention.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a sapling. I went to the local garden, and they had some good condition ones. so, i bought it. I picked one that looked healthy, with no obvious signs of disease or damage. It was about 3 feet tall, which seemed like a manageable size.

Planting Time
Next up, the planting. I dug a hole that was about twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Gotta give those roots room to spread out, you know? I made sure the soil at the bottom of the hole was loose so the roots could easily penetrate it.
Then, I carefully removed the tree from its container, trying not to disturb the roots too much. I placed it in the hole, making sure the top of the root ball was level with the ground. Once it was positioned right, I backfilled the hole with the soil I had dug out, gently tamping it down to eliminate air pockets.
Watering and Care
After planting, I gave it a good, deep watering. I’ve heard that these trees don’t like to be overwatered, so I’m planning to water it deeply but infrequently, letting the soil dry out a bit between waterings. It’s all about finding that balance.
I also added a layer of mulch around the base of the tree, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk. The mulch helps retain moisture and keeps the weeds down, which is always a plus.
Watching It Grow
Now, it’s mostly a waiting game. I’ll keep an eye on it, making sure it gets enough water and checking for any signs of pests or diseases. I’m really hoping it thrives and becomes a beautiful addition to my yard. It’s supposed to have these graceful, weeping branches, and I can’t wait to see them develop.
- So far, so good! It’s been a pretty straightforward process.
- I’ll need to prune it eventually to maintain its shape.
- and i think it can give me a nice view of my yard.
I’m excited to see how this Australian Willow Tree grows and adds to the beauty of my outdoor space!
