So, I’ve got this ficus microcarpa ginseng, right? Looks like a tiny tree with a fat little trunk, pretty cool. But lately, it’s been dropping leaves like crazy. Not cool at all.
First thing I did was check the soil. I stuck my finger in, and it was dry as a bone. I had not been watering it much! I was for sure underwatering it. So, I gave it a good soak, making sure the water drained out the bottom. I thought, “Problem solved!” Nope.

Leaves kept falling. I started to think about light. My ficus was near a window, but maybe it wasn’t getting enough. I mean, it’s winter, and the days are short. I moved it to a brighter spot, closer to the window, where it could get more light. Still, those leaves kept dropping.
Then, I noticed something else. My apartment gets pretty dry in the winter because of the heater. I figured maybe the ficus needed more humidity. I grabbed a spray bottle and started misting it every day. I also put a tray of water near it, hoping that would help. I even tried to talk nicely to it and I played some music for it. I was desperate at that time.
Guess what? It started to work! The leaves stopped falling, and I even saw some new growth. Whew, that was a close one.
My Care Routine Now
- Watering: I’m making sure to water it regularly now. I check the soil every few days and water it when it feels dry to the touch.
- Light: It’s staying in that bright spot by the window. Seems happy there.
- Humidity: I’m still misting it, and that tray of water is still there. I also bought a humidifier.
It took some trial and error, but I think I finally figured out what my ficus needed. It’s looking much better now, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way. Taking care of plants can be tricky, but it’s definitely worth it when you see them thrive.
