Okay, so, I’ve got this giant bird of paradise plant, and let me tell you, it’s become a bit of a situation. This thing has gotten HUGE. I mean, we’re talking way taller than me, and it’s starting to take over my space!
I love the tropical vibe it brings, but it’s just too tall. I did some digging around, and it turns out these plants can grow over 30 feet tall! Mine’s not quite there yet, but it’s well on its way.
What I Did
- Chopped the top: First, I decided the main stalk had to go. It was the tallest one and reaching for the ceiling. So, I grabbed my pruning shears and gave it a good whack, cutting it down to a more manageable height.
- Spotted the babies: While I was at it, I noticed some smaller shoots growing at the bottom of the plant. From what I read, these are like the plant’s backup plan. When the main part gets too big, you can cut it down, and these little guys take over.
- Cleaned up the mess: Then it was time to tidy things up. I took all the leaves and stems down to just above the ground and also removed any dead flowers or old stuff that had fallen around the plant. It’s like giving it a fresh haircut!
I hope, after this big trim, my giant bird of paradise will be a bit more chill. I’m thinking those smaller shoots will start to grow more now, and the whole plant will be less of a space-hog. It’s a bit of work, yeah, but I guess that’s just part of having these tropical plants. I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it goes!
