Well, let me tell ya, this grape vine thing, it ain’t always easy peasy. Sometimes them leaves, they just turn yellow, right in the middle of summer! Drives ya crazy, it does. So, I’ve been pokin’ around, askin’ folks, and thinkin’ hard, and here’s what I figured out.
First off, waterin’. Yeah, water. You gotta water them vines, but not too much, not too little. It’s like makin’ cornbread, gotta get it just right. Too much water, the roots get all soggy and can’t breathe, and then them leaves turn yellow, just like a sick chicken. Too little water, they dry up like old shoe leather, and guess what? Yellow leaves again! So, you gotta feel the dirt, see how dry it is, and water it good, but not too good, ya know? Like, enough to wet the dirt deep down, but not make it a swamp.
Then there’s them bugs. Little critters, eatin’ away at the leaves. Sometimes you can’t even see ’em, they’re so tiny. But they’re there, suckin’ the life outta them leaves, and turnin’ ’em yellow. So, you gotta keep an eye out, look under the leaves, and if you see them little buggers, you gotta do somethin’ about it. Some folks spray stuff, but I don’t like that much. I try to pick ’em off, or squish ’em, if I can. Or sometimes, I just let the birds take care of ’em. Birds are good for that, you know.
- Water right – Not too much, not too little.
- Look for bugs – Check under the leaves and get rid of ’em if ya see ’em.
- Feed ’em good – Give the vines some good food, like compost or manure.
- Sunlight – Make sure them vines get enough sun. They need it to grow strong and healthy.
Another thing, them vines, they need food too, just like us. You can’t expect ’em to grow good grapes if they’re starvin’. So, you gotta give ’em some good food, like compost or manure. I like to use that old chicken manure, works wonders, it does. Just spread it around the bottom of the vines, and let the rain wash it in. That’ll make them vines happy and strong, and the leaves won’t turn yellow so easy.
And don’t forget the sun! Them grape vines, they love the sun. They need it to grow big and strong. If they’re in the shade too much, they won’t be happy, and guess what? Yellow leaves! So, make sure them vines are gettin’ plenty of sunshine, all day long if you can. If you planted them in a shady spot, well, that’s just too bad. You might have to move ’em, or cut down some trees, or somethin’. But them vines need sun, that’s for sure.
Now, sometimes, even if you do everything right, them leaves still turn yellow. It’s just nature, I guess. Sometimes it’s too hot, sometimes it’s too cold, sometimes it’s just bad luck. But don’t give up! Just keep tryin’, keep learnin’, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll figure out how to keep them leaves green all summer long.
And one more thing, when you see them yellow leaves, don’t go yankin’ ’em off right away. Sometimes them leaves can still give some goodness back to the plant. Let ’em hang on for a bit, until they dry up and fall off on their own. That’s what I do, anyways. Seems to work alright.
So there ya have it. That’s what I know about grape vines turnin’ yellow. It ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t always easy neither. Just gotta pay attention, do your best, and hope for the best. And if them leaves still turn yellow, well, that’s just life, I reckon.
