Alright, so, I’ve been getting into gardening lately, and I wanted to share my experience with this Peggy Martin rose I’ve been growing. It’s been quite a journey, let me tell you!
I started this whole thing a while back. I’d heard about the Peggy Martin rose, this tough, beautiful climber, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I got a small plant from a local nursery. It was just a little thing, but I had high hopes.

Planted it in a sunny spot in my garden, made sure the soil was decent, and began the waiting game. At first, it was slow going. I’d water it, add some fertilizer now and then, and just watch it, you know, like you do. I’d heard these things could be fast growers, but mine seemed to be taking its sweet time.
But then, boom! It was like it suddenly woke up. Started shooting up like crazy. New canes all over the place, leaves everywhere. I had to get a trellis real quick ’cause this thing was going wild. I guided the canes, tied them up, and just watched it go.
- First year, it probably grew about 5 feet, maybe a bit more.
- Second year? Whoa. It shot up another 8 feet or so, easily.
- By the third year, this thing was a monster, in the best way possible. It covered the whole trellis and then some, must’ve been at least 15 feet tall.
I’m telling ya, this rose is a beast. It’s covered in these gorgeous pink blooms in the spring, and it just keeps going. I prune it back a bit each year, but it just keeps coming back stronger. From my memory and what I heard from others, it can grow like 6′-15′ per year. So if you’re looking for a rose that’s gonna fill out a space quickly, the Peggy Martin is your girl. Just be ready to give it some room to grow!
It’s been a fun ride, watching this rose go from a little baby plant to this huge, beautiful thing. And the best part? It’s pretty low maintenance. I mean, you gotta water it and all that, but it’s not super fussy. Definitely a rewarding experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-growing, gorgeous climber.
My advice?
Just do it, get it in the ground, and watch the magic happen! Just be prepared for some serious growth!
