So, I got this idea to plant some forget-me-nots. I love those little blue flowers, and I thought they’d look great in my garden. I started this little project and I’m going to tell you all about it. No fancy stuff, just my experience.
Getting the Seeds Ready
First things first, I got my seeds. I decided to start them indoors around May. I sprinkled them into some small pots and covered them with a bit of compost. The trick, I found out, is to keep them in a warm place. I used my windowsill, which gets a good amount of sunlight. Then, I just played the waiting game, keeping the soil moist and hoping for the best.

Watching Them Grow
After a few days, I started seeing little sprouts. It was pretty exciting! Once they were big enough, I moved each sprout into its own little pot. This was around when they had a couple of leaves. I kept watering them, making sure they got enough light but not too much direct sun, especially since I live in a pretty warm area. I learned that these little guys prefer a bit of shade when it’s too hot and sunny.
Moving Them Outside
When summer was ending, and it started to cool down a bit, I thought it was time to move them outside. I found a nice spot in my garden that gets a good mix of sun and shade. I planted them there, hoping they’d like their new home. I also spread some seeds directly into the garden, just to see what would happen.
The Long Wait
From what I read, forget-me-nots usually bloom in their second year. So, I knew it was going to be a while before I saw those pretty blue flowers. The first year was all about getting them strong and healthy. They spread out quite a bit, which was nice to see. I kept an eye on them, made sure they had enough water, especially since it can get pretty dry here.
Finally, Flowers!
About 40 days in, I noticed some buds, and by day 45, bam! Tiny blue flowers everywhere! It was such a rewarding sight. They bloomed all the way into early summer. One thing I noticed was that the plants kinda moved around a lot during this time, like they were dancing or something. It was pretty cool to watch.
A Few More Things
- Watering: These plants love moist soil, especially since they often grow near water in the wild.
- Spreading: They spread easily, which is great if you want a lot of them. Just keep an eye out so they don’t take over.
- When to Plant: Early spring or fall seems to be the best time. If you’re in a warmer place, plant them in the fall so they can get settled before winter.
So, that’s my story of growing forget-me-nots. It took a while, but seeing those little blue flowers bloom was totally worth it. If you’re thinking about growing them, go for it! It’s a bit of a wait, but it’s a pretty simple and rewarding process. Just remember to be patient, and enjoy the journey!
