So, I’ve been growing this wandering jew plant for a while now, and I gotta say, figuring out the right amount of sunlight has been a bit of a journey. At first, I wasn’t sure how much light it needed, so I just stuck it in a spot that seemed bright enough. But then, I started noticing that the leaves were losing their vibrant color.
I did a little digging around, and it turns out these plants love bright, indirect sunlight. They need a good amount of light to keep their colors popping, but direct sunlight is a big no-no. It can actually scorch the leaves!

Here’s what I did:
- Moved it around: I tried a few different spots in my house until I found the sweet spot.
- Observed it: I kept a close eye on the plant to see how it was responding to the light in each location.
- Tried different windows: This is important because I found that an east-facing window was too weak, then I tried a south-facing window, and the leaves got burned.
- Finally found the right spot: I ended up placing it near a west-facing window where it gets plenty of bright, indirect light throughout the day.
- Watered it: I tried to water it less or more in different places because in different sunlight, it needs different amounts of water.
Now, my wandering jew is thriving! The leaves are a beautiful, vibrant purple and green, and it’s growing like crazy. And if I moved it into a place with insufficient light, its leaves began to lose their colors.
One more thing I learned is that these plants are pretty sensitive to humidity. If the air is too dry, the leaves can start to brown and droop. So, keeping the humidity up is also important for keeping these guys happy.
Anyway, that’s my experience with figuring out the right amount of sunlight for a wandering jew. It takes a little trial and error, but once you find the right spot, these plants are pretty easy to care for.
