Oh, that Mexican yellow bird of paradise tree, ain’t she somethin’? Real pretty thing to look at, I tell ya. Bright yellow flowers, like little suns shinin’ in the garden. Kinda makes ya smile just lookin’ at ’em.
Now, I ain’t no fancy gardener, but I know what I like. And this here tree, she’s easy to like. Grows pretty fast too, so ya don’t gotta wait forever to see those flowers. Ain’t nothin’ worse than plantin’ somethin’ and waitin’ and waitin’ and gettin’ nothin’ but leaves, ya know?
- Sunshine: She likes the sun, this tree. Gotta have lots of it, or she won’t be happy. Plant her where the sun shines most of the day, that’s what I say.
- Water: Now, don’t go drownin’ her. She don’t like wet feet. Water her good when ya plant her, then let the dirt dry out a bit before ya water her again. She’s tough, this one, can handle a bit of dry.
The flowers, they come in bunches. Long bunches, hangin’ down like grapes. And the hummingbirds, they love ’em! Flittin’ around, stickin’ their beaks in for a taste of somethin’ sweet, I guess. Keeps ’em busy, that’s for sure.
Some folks call it the Mexican bird of paradise, some call it somethin’ else. Too many names, if ya ask me. But it don’t matter what ya call it, it’s still a purty tree. And it ain’t got no thorns, which is nice. Nothin’ worse than gettin’ stuck when you’re tryin’ to tidy up around it.
Now, I heard some folks say it’s a shrub, and some say it’s a small tree. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference. Grows up tall enough for me, that’s all I care about. And those leaves, they look like little ferns. Pretty and delicate, but strong too. Don’t fall off too easy, like some other plants.
The color, that’s what really gets ya. That bright yellow, it just pops! Stands out from all the green in the yard. And them red stamens, little red things stickin’ out of the middle of the flowers, they add a little somethin’ extra. Like a little surprise.
Don’t need much water, this tree. That’s good, especially if ya forget sometimes. Like me. I get busy with other things, ya know? And it don’t make a mess neither. No leaves or flowers fallin’ all over the place. Clean and tidy, that’s how I like it.
And them birds, they love it. Not just the hummingbirds, but other birds too. Comin’ and goin’, makin’ a racket sometimes, but it’s nice to hear ’em singin’. Makes the garden feel alive.
If ya want a pretty tree that’s easy to take care of, this Mexican yellow bird of paradise is a good choice. Brightens up the place, don’t ask for much, and brings in the birds. What more could ya want, right?
