Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get into growing pecan nut trees for a while now. I did a little digging online and found that there are lots of places to buy pecan nut trees. It is a little overwhelming.
First, I drove to a local nursery. They had a few pecan trees, but they looked a little sad, to be honest. The leaves were kind of droopy, and some had brown spots. I asked one of the workers there about them, and he said they hadn’t been selling well. He tried to convince me that they were just going through a phase, but I wasn’t feeling it.

Next, I checked out some online stores. It is a little risky to buy online, but I decided to give it a try. I found a couple of websites that looked legit. They had pictures and descriptions of different pecan tree varieties. I read through a bunch of customer reviews. Most of them were positive, but there were a few complaints about trees arriving damaged or not growing well. I made a note to be careful about that.
Comparing Prices and Varieties
After comparing prices and varieties, I narrowed it down to two online stores. One specialized in pecan trees, while the other was a more general gardening store. The specialist store had higher prices, but they also had more detailed information about each tree. They even had a chat feature where I could ask questions. I talked to one of their representatives, and she was super helpful. She answered all my questions and even gave me some tips on planting and caring for the trees.
- Specialist Store:
- Higher prices
- More variety
- Detailed information
- Helpful customer service
- General Store:
- Lower prices
- Less variety
- Basic information
- Standard customer service
I ended up ordering two young pecan trees from the specialist store. I figured it was worth the extra cost to get healthy trees and good advice. They arrived a week later, packed carefully in a big box. I was relieved to see that they looked healthy and vibrant.
I followed the planting instructions that came with the trees. It wasn’t too hard, just digging a couple of holes and making sure the roots were spread out. I watered them well and added some mulch around the base.
Now, I’m just waiting for them to grow. It’ll take a few years before they start producing nuts, but I’m excited to see how they do. I’ll keep watering and fertilizing them, and hopefully, I’ll have a nice little pecan harvest in the future. It’s been a fun little project so far, and I’m learning a lot about pecan trees. Wish me luck!
