Well now, if yer Peace Lily’s been gettin’ a little too much water, it ain’t lookin’ too good. Y’know, them poor leaves start to droop like they’ve been up all night, and ain’t no good for nothin’. You might even think they need a drink, but actually, you’ve been drownin’ ’em. I can tell ya, that soil’s all soggy, squishy, and just ain’t drainin’ right. Might even notice the soil pullin’ away from the sides of the pot, like it’s tryin’ to escape all that wetness. It’s a sad sight, really.
So what does an overwatered Peace Lily look like? Well, first off, them leaves will be all limp, feelin’ soft like a wilted flower, like someone let all the air outta ’em, like a deflated balloon. Ain’t no strength left in ’em, just sad and droopy. Them leaves also might start turnin’ yellow, especially the lower ones. And the tips? Oh lord, they turn brown and crispy, like they’ve been singed by a fire that don’t even exist!
Now, don’t be fooled, ’cause sometimes you might think it’s just thirsty. When it’s thirsty, the plant will droop a little, but them leaves ain’t gonna be soft and mushy. If they’re like that, it’s a sure sign you’ve been too generous with the water jug. You see, that Peace Lily, she’s delicate, and overwatering suffocates her roots. You might even start to notice some of them roots turnin’ black. When that happens, it’s time to act quick before it’s too late!
How to fix an overwatered Peace Lily? Well, first thing’s first, you gotta get her outta that waterlogged pot. Take her out, and have a good look at the roots. Any black or mushy ones, you gotta snip ’em off. Don’t be shy, you gotta be tough. You can even soak ’em in some hydrogen peroxide solution for about 5 minutes—helps clean ’em up real good. After you’ve done all that, put the plant in a fresh pot with soil that drains well, just big enough for them healthy roots to fit in. Don’t make the mistake of puttin’ her back in a pot that’s too big. You gotta make sure the soil ain’t too moist, just a little damp to start.
Once you’ve done that, find a nice shaded spot for her to rest. Don’t be puttin’ her out in the sun too soon, or she’ll just get worse. Let that soil dry out a bit, and give her a chance to breathe. You don’t want to drown her again, so be careful with the waterin’ from here on out. She don’t need much, just enough to keep her happy.
What else to watch out for? Well, as I said, them droopy leaves and yellowing is a dead giveaway. And if the tips are brown and crispy, that’s another sure sign you’ve been overdo it. Keep an eye on them roots too, ’cause if they’re black and weak, that ain’t good. Your Peace Lily needs them roots to be strong and healthy to get the nutrients she needs. So don’t let ’em get suffocated by too much water!
In short, overwatering can kill yer Peace Lily, and it can happen quick if you ain’t payin’ attention. Always make sure the soil’s not soggy before you water again. And remember, she don’t like bein’ drenched. A little love, not too much, and she’ll be just fine.
