Okay, guys, today I wanna talk about something that’s been bugging me for a while – where the heck do you buy astilbe plants? I mean, I’ve been wanting to add these beauties to my garden for ages. They’re just so elegant, you know?
So, I started my quest, determined to find these delicate flowers. First, I hit up my local nursery. I figured, why not start there, right? They usually have a decent selection. And, yeah, they did have some astilbes, potted ones mostly. It’s usually best to plant them in spring, so naturally you gotta buy them in spring.

The staff there also gave me a good tip about astilbes needing a shady spot and moist soil. My garden’s got a bit of both, so I was feeling pretty good. They also mentioned that astilbes can handle more sun as long as the soil doesn’t dry out. Good to know!
I also found out that some nurseries sell bare-root astilbes. I didn’t even know that was a thing!
Here are some of the things I learned about astilbes:
- They like shade: Astilbes are not sun worshippers. They prefer dappled shade or partial shade.
- They need water: These plants are thirsty! They don’t like dry soil.
- They flower for a while: One type, called False Spirea, can bloom for over six weeks! That’s a lot of bang for your buck.
- Leaf problems: If the leaves start turning red or brown, it could mean they’re getting too much sun, or the soil is too dry. It could also be those pesky leafhoppers, so keep an eye out for them.
- Feeding: A yearly dose of slow-release fertilizer is all they need. Make sure it has enough phosphorus for good blooms.
All in all, it wasn’t as hard as I thought to find astilbe plants. But knowing where they like to grow and how to care for them is definitely going to help me keep these beauties happy in my garden. If you’re thinking of adding astilbes to your garden, definitely check out your local nursery or garden center. You might be surprised at what you find!
