So, I’ve been wanting to grow a white sapote tree for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I started looking around for where I could get one, you know, just browsing online and checking out local nurseries.
I found this one place online that had some grafted Suebelle sapote trees, and it said they were also known as white sapote or ‘Casimiroa edulis’. Sounded right up my alley. The website even said, “Only 17 left in stock – order soon,” so I figured I better act fast if I wanted one.

I ended up ordering one, and when it arrived, I was pretty stoked. I carefully took it out of the box and gave it a good look over. It looked healthy, so that was a good start.
Next, I had to figure out where to plant it. I did some reading and found that these trees like well-drained soil and plenty of sun. I had a spot in my backyard that seemed to fit the bill, so I prepped the soil, adding some compost to give it a boost.
Planting it was pretty straightforward. I dug a hole that was big enough for the root ball, gently placed the tree in, and then filled it back up with soil, making sure to water it well.
Since then, I’ve been keeping an eye on it, watering it regularly and giving it some fertilizer every now and then. It’s been growing steadily, and I’m really excited to see it start producing fruit. I’ve heard that white sapotes are super tasty, so I’m really looking forward to trying them fresh off the tree.
Here are some things I learned along the way:
- Find a good source: It’s important to get your tree from a reputable place to make sure it’s healthy and the right variety.
- Choose the right spot: White sapotes need well-drained soil and lots of sunlight.
- Plant and care: The planting process is like most trees, just ensure it gets enough water and some fertilizer once in a while.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a good harvest in the future!
It’s been a fun experience so far, and I’m really happy I decided to add a white sapote tree to my garden. If you’re thinking about growing one, I say go for it!
