Why Are My Calla Lily Leaves Turning Yellow? Common Causes and Solutions

If you’ve been waterin’ your calla lily too much, that’s probably the main reason them leaves are turnin’ yellow. You see, these plants, they don’t like sittin’ in water too long. Their roots can start to rot if they get too soggy, and that’s bad news for the whole plant. When the roots rot, the plant can’t drink up the water and nutrients it needs, so those poor leaves just start to go yellow, like they’re gittin’ sick.

So, what should you do about it? Well, first thing’s first, you gotta check the soil. Stick your finger down in there a couple of inches. If it’s still wet, even days after you watered it, it’s time to cut back on the waterin’. Let that soil dry out real good before you water again. And if you’ve got a pot with no drainage, you might wanna think about puttin’ some holes in the bottom so the water can escape.

Nutrient Deficiency Could Be A Problem

Now, there’s another thing that can cause them yellow leaves, and that’s not enough food for your plant. If you ain’t been feedin’ your calla lily, it might be sufferin’ from a lack of nutrients. Plants need food just like we do, and if you don’t feed ’em right, they’ll start lookin’ unhealthy.

One of the main things your calla lily might be missin’ is nitrogen. Without enough nitrogen, the older leaves on the plant will turn yellow, and the whole plant might not grow as big and strong as it should. So, what I suggest is gettin’ some fertilizer. You want a good one that’s got nitrogen in it. A little sprinkle of that stuff every few weeks should help keep your plant happy and healthy.

Temperature And Light Conditions Matter

Sometimes, it ain’t the water or the food that’s the problem. It could be the temperature or light your calla lily is gettin’. These plants like a nice, warm spot with plenty of light but not too much direct sun. If it’s too cold or if you’re puttin’ it in too much sunlight, the leaves might start turnin’ yellow from stress. Make sure your plant is in a spot where it’s gettin’ enough light but not too much burnin’ sun, especially in the middle of the day.

Pests And Diseases Are No Good Either

Now, don’t forget about pests and diseases. Sometimes, them little critters can make the leaves go yellow, too. If you notice any bugs on the leaves or the stems, or if the plant seems like it’s bein’ eaten away, you might be dealin’ with a pest problem. Check closely, especially underneath the leaves, where them sneaky bugs like to hide. If you spot any pests, you might need to get a pesticide, or use some natural remedy like soap and water to wash them off.

How To Fix Yellowing Leaves On Your Calla Lily

  • Check the soil moisture. If it’s too wet, let it dry out and cut back on watering.
  • Make sure you’re using the right fertilizer, especially one that’s got nitrogen in it.
  • Give your plant the right amount of light, and keep it in a warm spot but not too hot.
  • Look for pests and diseases. If you find any, get rid of ’em quickly.

If you follow these tips, your calla lily should start lookin’ better in no time. Remember, these plants are hardy, but they do need a little bit of care and attention. Keep an eye on ’em, and they’ll reward ya with them beautiful flowers in the end!
