Well, look at this, my impatiens, them leaves, they’re turnin’ all yellow. Not a pretty sight, no sir. Used to be so bright and cheerful, now they lookin’ like somethin’ the dog dragged in. Makes a body wonder what’s goin’ on, you know? Always somethin’ with these plants, ain’t it?
First off, I reckon it could be just plain old age. Like us, them leaves gettin’ on, they just start to fade. The ones on the bottom, they go first. Nothin’ much you can do about that, I guess. Just nature takin’ its course. Happens to the best of us, even impatiens. Just old age, plain and simple.
But then again, it could be somethin’ else. Like, maybe them plants ain’t gettin’ enough food. You know, like when your belly rumbles and you feel all weak? Plants get that way too. They need their grub, just like us. Soil, it ain’t always got enough good stuff in it, specially if it’s been sittin’ there a while. My old grandpappy used to say, “feed the soil, feed the plants”. He was a smart fella when it came to growin’ things, God rest his soul.
- So, maybe I gotta give ’em somethin’ extra. Somethin’ with that nitrogen stuff. Heard tell that’s what makes ’em green and grow strong.
- Or maybe I gotta put ’em in some fresh dirt. Like givin’ ’em a new bed to sleep in. Comfy and full of good things to eat.
Now, there’s them bugs too. Them nasty little critters, always causin’ trouble. Pesky little things. Can’t see ’em half the time, but they’re there, chewin’ away. And then there’s them diseases, like that botrytis somethin’-or-other. Sounds fancy, but it just means the plants are sick. Like when you get the flu, all achy and weak. Only with plants, they turn yellow and droopy.
Heard tell there’s stuff you can spray on ’em. Somethin’ called Garden-phos. Sounds like somethin’ you’d use to clean the toilet, but they say it helps. Mix it up with water and spray it on, like you’re givin’ the plants a bath. Only this bath is supposed to kill them nasty bugs and that botrytis stuff.
Waterin’ too much or too little, that can do it too. Like Goldilocks and the three bears, you gotta get it just right. Too much and they drown, too little and they dry up. Always a fine line with these things. Water just right. Never did understand how some folks can just water everything the same amount and expect it all to grow. Every plant’s different, just like people.
So, what’s a body to do? Well, I reckon I’ll try a little bit of everything. Give ’em some food, check for bugs, maybe spray that Garden-phos stuff, and make sure I’m waterin’ ’em just right. And if they still turn yellow? Well, then I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Can’t win ’em all, that’s for sure. But I ain’t givin’ up yet. These impatiens, they’re like my little babies, and I’m gonna do everything I can to make ’em healthy and strong again.
And maybe, just maybe, I’ll ask that young fella from the garden store down the road. He seems to know a thing or two about plants. Might even have some secret potion or somethin’. You never know these days, they got somethin’ for everything. But first, I’ll try my own remedies. Always been a believer in doin’ things yourself, if you can. That’s the way I was raised, and it’s served me well all these years.
So there you have it, the story of my yellow impatiens leaves. A bit of a mystery, a bit of a headache, but I ain’t givin’ up hope. Just gotta keep tryin’, keep learnin’, and keep on keepin’ on. That’s the way life is, ain’t it? Full of ups and downs, yellows and greens. And you just gotta take it as it comes and do the best you can. That’s all any of us can do.
