Well, well, well, them roses, ain’t they a sight? Pretty things, they are. But hot weather? Oh, they don’t like it one bit. You see, when it gets real hot, over 90, like they say, somethin’ happens to ’em.

First thing you see, the leaves, they start lookin’ sad. The edges get all reddish-brown, like they been burnt. The stems, too, they get brown spots. It’s the sunburn, you know. Like when you been out in the sun too long. Then the leaves, they start droppin’ off. The whole bush, it’s like it’s givin’ up.

after roses have been through a heat stress

They say the plants, they’re tryin’ to save themselves. Like they know somethin’s wrong. They shed them leaves to keep from dryin’ up. And it takes a long time for ’em to get better. Sometimes a few days, sometimes months. Depends how bad the heat got to ’em.

  • See them leaves curlin’ up? That’s the first sign. Means they’re thirsty, tryin’ to keep the water they got.
  • Then the flowers, they might stop bloomin’. Some roses, they’re tough. They keep on bloomin’ even when it’s hot. But some, they just give up. Even them fancy ones with the names you can’t pronounce.

Now, if you don’t do nothin’, them roses might die. For real. It can take months, maybe never, for them to come back. If they been too long in the heat, all dried up and sad.

But there’s things you can do. You gotta give ’em water. Lots of water. And shade, too. If you can, put somethin’ over ’em when the sun’s beatin’ down. Like a blanket or somethin’. Keep ’em cool.

Plants, they got ways of dealin’ with the heat. They got this thing, “heat-shock response” they call it. Fancy words, I know. But it’s like their own little way of fightin’ the heat. Tryin’ to keep their insides from gettin’ messed up.

Some roses, they handle the heat better than others. Weeks roses, they say, they’re pretty good. Even if they get sick easy, they still bloom when it’s hot. But them other ones, the fancy ones, they don’t like it. They just stop bloomin’.

You know, it’s like people. Some folks can handle the heat, some can’t. Same with them roses. You gotta know what kind you got, and take care of ’em right. Give ’em what they need.

So when it gets hot, remember them roses. They need your help. Don’t let ’em suffer. Give ’em water, give ’em shade. And they’ll thank you for it. With pretty flowers and healthy leaves. Just like they should.

It ain’t easy, takin’ care of things. Whether it’s roses or kids or animals. You gotta pay attention. See what they need. And give it to ’em. That’s how you keep things alive. That’s how you make ’em thrive.

after roses have been through a heat stress

So next time you see them roses lookin’ sad in the heat, remember what I told ya. Give ’em a little love. And they’ll perk right up. Just you wait and see.
